4PX Shipping Guide: Transit Times, Tracking Codes & Real Costs
Time: Oct 20,2026 Author: SFC Source: www.sendfromchina.com
So a seller tells you your order "shipped with 4PX." You get a tracking number that looks like a random string of letters. You paste it somewhere, it says "departed origin," and then it goes quiet. For like a week.
Yeah. That's the moment most people end up googling 4PX.
This guide is for two kinds of readers. If you're waiting on a parcel, you'll learn how long 4PX usually takes, what the tracking statuses actually mean, and when it's time to worry. If you're a seller shipping out of China, you'll get a plain look at how 4PX pricing is built, what changed with US customs, and when a carrier label alone stops being enough.
What Is 4PX, and Who Actually Runs It?
4PX (递四方, often written 4PX Express or 4PX Worldwide Express) is a cross-border logistics company based in Shenzhen, China. Public records usually date it back to 2004. Its main job is moving small ecommerce parcels from China to buyers in other countries, and it also offers warehousing and returns services for online sellers. You can see its current service list on 4PX's official website.
If you've bought from marketplace sellers in China, you've probably met 4PX without noticing. It shows up a lot on AliExpress orders, on independent Shopify stores, and on dropshipping orders.
4PX, Cainiao and AliExpress: How They Connect
This is the part a lot of articles get fuzzy on, so let's be precise.
4PX is majority-owned by Cainiao, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group. Singapore Post used to hold a stake too. According to a June 2025 filing by Singapore Post on the Singapore Exchange, Cainiao bought SingPost's remaining 17.61% interest for about RMB 515.3 million, and SingPost no longer holds any interest in 4PX.
Why should you care? Mostly because it explains why 4PX is so common on AliExpress. Alibaba runs AliExpress, Cainiao runs a big chunk of Alibaba's logistics, and 4PX sits inside that family. Our AliExpress shipping guide covers the shipping options buyers see on that platform.
Carrier, Forwarder or 3PL? Where 4PX Fits
People throw these words around like they mean the same thing. They don't, quite.
|
Term
|
What it means
|
Is 4PX this?
|
|---|---|---|
|
Carrier
|
Physically moves goods by truck, plane or van
|
Partly. It handles pickup and sorting in China, then relies on airlines and local delivery companies
|
|
Freight forwarder
|
Books transport and handles paperwork, usually for larger cargo
|
Sort of, but focused on parcels rather than containers
|
|
3PL
|
Takes over logistics jobs for a business, such as storage, packing and shipping
|
It offers some of this, but parcel shipping is the core
|
|
Last-mile carrier
|
Brings the parcel to your door
|
No. That's USPS, UPS, Royal Mail, Australia Post and so on

How a 4PX Parcel Travels From China to Your Door
Let's follow one box. Say it's a phone tripod going from a seller in Dongguan to a buyer in Texas.
This content is only supported in a Feishu Docs
- Order created. The seller prints a 4PX label. Tracking exists now, but the box might still be sitting on the seller's shelf.
- Pickup and sorting. 4PX collects the parcel and runs it through a sorting center in South China. This is usually the first real scan.
- Export customs. The parcel gets cleared to leave China, normally in a big batch with thousands of others.
- Line-haul flight. It flies out, sometimes direct, sometimes through a hub like Hong Kong. That's why some buyers see a Hong Kong scan on a parcel that started in the mainland.
- Import clearance. Customs in the destination country checks the paperwork and releases it.
- Handover to a local carrier. 4PX passes it to a local delivery company.
- Delivered. The local carrier drops it at your door or a pickup point.
A lot of the "where is it?!" moments happen between steps, when the parcel is changing hands. Tracking often says something like "arrived at facility" there. Our piece on what a carrier facility is explains what's going on inside those buildings.

4PX Service Lines: Economy, Special Line and Express
Here's where it gets a bit messy. The exact product names on 4PX's site change over time, and sellers often relabel them at checkout. But most 4PX shipments fall into three rough tiers.
|
Tier
|
What it is
|
Typical use
|
Tracking
|
|---|---|---|---|
|
Economy or postal
|
Hands the parcel to a national postal service for final delivery
|
Light, low-value items where price matters most
|
Usually tracked, but updates can be thin once the post takes over
|
|
Special line or standard
|
Dedicated routes into a specific country, cleared in batches and passed to a local courier
|
Most everyday ecommerce orders
|
Fuller tracking from China to the door
|
|
Express
|
Shipped through international express partners
|
Urgent or higher-value orders
|
Detailed tracking, higher price
|
Products with batteries, liquids, powders or cosmetics usually can't go on the regular lines. They need special-goods lines, and some routes won't take them at all. Ask before you ship one of these.
Not sure whether you need express at all? Our comparison of express vs economy shipping from China walks through the trade-off.
4PX Delivery Time by Destination
Okay, the question everyone actually came for. How long does 4PX take?
Honest answer: it depends a lot on the line and the route, and 4PX doesn't publish one simple chart for buyers. Below are ranges gathered from public third-party guides. Treat them as rough estimates, not promises.

USA and Canada
For most special-line orders to the US, two to four weeks is a fair expectation. Parcels into the US can also slow down at customs since the rule changes in 2025, which we'll get to in the cost section. Canada tends to land in a similar window, with remote areas taking longer.
UK and Europe
The UK and big EU markets like Germany and France get a lot of dedicated-line traffic, so things usually move steadily. Smaller EU countries can take a few extra days because the final delivery partner changes.
Australia, New Zealand and the Rest of the World
Australia and New Zealand sit in the same broad range as Europe. South America, Africa and parts of the Middle East are where the long tails show up. Customs and last-mile delivery there can add weeks.
Why the Clock Starts Later Than You Think
Here's a thing almost nobody explains. The "transit time" on most charts starts when 4PX scans the parcel. It doesn't start when you click buy.
In between, the seller has to pick, pack and hand it over. That alone can take a few days, and longer around Chinese New Year or Singles' Day on November 11. So if a chart says 10–25 days and you're on day 12 with no real scan yet, the parcel may not have started its trip at all. Annoying, but normal.

4PX Tracking: Numbers, Tools and Statuses
Tracking is where most of the confusion lives. Let's untangle it.
What a 4PX Tracking Number Looks Like
There isn't one fixed format, and that throws people off. You might see:
- A number that starts with "4PX" followed by digits. That's 4PX's own reference.
- A postal-style number such as two letters, nine digits and a country code, for example something ending in CN, HK or SG. These usually show up on economy lines.
- A totally different number later on, after the parcel is passed to a local carrier.
That last one matters. Once the parcel changes hands, the local carrier may issue its own number. If 4PX tracking stops moving, look on the 4PX page for a "last mile" or "transfer" number and track that one instead.
Where to Track It
You've got three options. There's 4PX's own tracking page, which is reachable from the 4PX website. There are multi-carrier trackers like 17TRACK, AfterShip or ParcelsApp. And once you have the local number, there's the local carrier's own website.
New numbers often show nothing for the first 24–48 hours. That's just the system catching up, not a sign of a fake number.
Common 4PX Tracking Statuses, Decoded
Wording varies a little between tools, but these are the ones you'll see most.

For a US buyer, the last part of the journey usually follows the local carrier's wording. Our guide to USPS tracking statuses helps with that stage.
Tracking Went Quiet. Should You Worry?
Most of the time, no. Long gaps tend to happen in three spots: waiting for a flight, sitting in import customs, and waiting for the local carrier's first scan.
A rough rule of thumb that works for a lot of buyers goes like this. Silence for under a week, just wait. Silence for 10–14 days, message the seller. Way past the delivery estimate, ask the seller to open an inquiry with 4PX, or open an "item not received" case on the marketplace.
One red flag to watch: if tracking stays on "order created" for a long time with no pickup scan, the seller may not have shipped yet. That's a seller problem, not a 4PX problem.

Who Delivers 4PX Parcels in Your Country?
4PX gets the parcel into your country. Someone local usually does the last bit. Which company depends on the line and the route, so the table below is a general pattern, not a fixed rule.
|
Destination
|
Common last-mile carriers
|
|---|---|
|
USA
|
USPS, UPS, or regional couriers
|
|
Canada
|
Canada Post or private couriers
|
|
UK
|
Royal Mail, Evri or other couriers
|
|
Germany and EU
|
National postal services, DHL Parcel, GLS, DPD
|
|
Australia
|
Australia Post or private couriers

The simple way to know for sure? Look at the latest tracking event. It usually names the local carrier, and sometimes gives a new tracking number too.
4PX Shipping Cost Breakdown
Now the seller side. "How much does 4PX cost?" sounds like it should have one answer. It doesn't, and here's why.
What Goes Into the Price
A 4PX quote is built from a handful of pieces.
- Chargeable weight. This is the bigger of the actual weight and the volumetric weight.
- Route and destination. Each country, and sometimes each zone inside a country, has its own rate.
- Service tier. Economy, special line and express are priced very differently.
- Product type. Battery, liquid or cosmetic items usually cost more or need special lines.
- Extras. Fuel surcharges, remote-area fees, registration fees and duties can all be added on top.
Volumetric weight trips up a lot of new sellers. Carriers commonly use a formula like length × width × height in centimeters divided by 5,000 or 6,000, depending on the service. So a light but bulky box, say 40 × 30 × 20 cm, works out to about 4.8 kg at a 5,000 divisor, even if it only weighs 1 kg. You pay for 4.8 kg. Ouch.
That's why packaging size matters so much. Our guide to right-sizing packaging for dimensional weight shows how to trim it.
Ballpark Rates From Public Sources
4PX doesn't publish a public rate card for buyers. Here's what third-party guides report for the US. Please don't plan a budget around these. They're just to give you a feel.

Notice how they don't fully agree? Rates move with fuel prices, peak season and customs changes. A real quote for your actual box and route is the only number that counts.
Duties, Taxes and the End of US De Minimis
This is the biggest change for anyone shipping cheap parcels into the US, and plenty of older 4PX articles skip it.
For years, US shipments worth $800 or less could come in duty-free under the de minimis rule. In August 2025, the US suspended that duty-free treatment for low-value parcels. US Customs and Border Protection has published more rules since, including a June 2026 notice on mail shipments. Rules are still shifting, so check the CBP e-commerce page before you promise anything to customers.
What it means day to day:
- Someone pays duties now. Either the seller includes them in the shipping price (DDP, delivered duty paid), or the buyer pays on arrival (DDU, delivered duty unpaid).
- Paperwork matters more. Accurate descriptions, HS codes and declared values help parcels clear without delays. You can look up rates with our HS code tariff lookup.
- Invoices have to be right. A vague or wrong invoice is a classic reason parcels sit in customs. Here's how to get commercial invoices for ecommerce shipping from China right.
The UK, EU, Canada and Australia have their own VAT and duty rules. They didn't change along with the US, so check each market on its own.
How to Estimate Before You Ship
Before you commit to any carrier, run your real numbers. Weigh and measure the packed product, pick your main destinations, and compare a few options. Our shipping cost calculator gives you a starting estimate for shipping out of China.

Is 4PX Reliable? The Honest Pros and Cons
Short version: yes, 4PX is a legitimate, established logistics company, with Alibaba's logistics arm as its majority owner. Is it perfect? Nope. Here's a fair view.
|
Pros
|
Cons
|
|---|---|
|
Low-cost options for small, light parcels
|
Economy lines can be slow
|
|
Wide route coverage out of China
|
Tracking can go quiet during handovers
|
|
Common on major marketplaces, so sellers know how to use it
|
Buyers can't easily reach 4PX directly. Support mostly goes through sellers
|
|
Several tiers, from economy to express
|
Peak seasons and holidays add real delays
|
On public review sites, buyer feedback is mixed. Lots of "arrived on time," plus a fair number of "took longer than promised." That's pretty typical for low-cost cross-border shipping, honestly.
4PX vs YunExpress vs Yanwen vs Cainiao
If you're a seller, you'll run into these four names a lot. They aren't identical businesses, so "which one wins" isn't a useful question. Here's a neutral look at what each is mainly known for.

The fair way to choose is boring but it works. Get quotes for your real routes, ship a few test orders, and compare how they actually arrive. A lower price per kilo doesn't help much if a chunk of your parcels show up late.
When a China Fulfillment Partner Makes More Sense
Here's what a lot of sellers figure out after a few months. Picking a carrier is only one piece of the puzzle. The other pieces are where your stock sits, who checks it, who packs it, and who picks the right shipping line for each order.
When you've got several suppliers, a crowdfunding campaign, or a growing Shopify store, booking parcels one at a time gets messy. A China fulfillment partner can take that off your plate. If you're new to the idea, start with what a China fulfillment center is and how it works.
SendFromChina is a China-based third-party fulfillment partner. In plain terms:
- Storage in China. We receive, inspect, label and store your goods in our China warehouse.
- Pick, pack and ship. Orders can come in manually, by spreadsheet, from your store or through an API. We pick, pack and ship them with tracking.
- Reference transit times, not promises. As a guide, US orders take about 7–12 working days, the UK about 3–6, and Canada, Australia and the EU about 8–13. Route, carrier, product type, customs and season can all change that. US details are on our shipping from China to the USA page.
- DDP and DDU options. With DDP, duties are included in the shipping cost, so your customer doesn't pay on delivery. This applies to declared values up to $150 and doesn't cover Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii or Guam. With DDU, the recipient pays any import tax.
- Clear cost pieces. There's no single flat price. Costs come from storage, shipping, pick and pack, and VAT where it applies. Packaging, barcodes and insurance are optional extras.

Conclusion
4PX is a big, real logistics company. It's backed by Alibaba's logistics arm and moves a lot of small parcels out of China. It's affordable and it works for everyday ecommerce. It's just not fast on the cheaper lines, and the tracking can look scary when parcels change hands.
Waiting on a parcel? Most "stuck" moments are handover gaps, so give it time, then go to the seller. Shipping as a seller? Get real quotes for your real boxes, keep an eye on US customs rules, and think about whether you need a full fulfillment setup behind the label.
FAQs
How long does 4PX take to deliver to the US?
Third-party guides put special lines at roughly 10–25 business days and economy lines at roughly 15–45, counted from the first 4PX scan. Express is quicker. Customs and peak seasons can stretch things.
Is 4PX a legit shipping company?
Yes. 4PX is an established Chinese logistics company, majority-owned by Alibaba's logistics arm Cainiao. Slow economy delivery doesn't mean it's a scam.
Why is my 4PX tracking not updating?
Usually the parcel is between handovers, like waiting for a flight, in customs, or waiting for the local carrier's first scan. A week of silence can be normal. After 10–14 days, contact the seller.
Who delivers 4PX packages in the US?
It depends on the line. USPS and UPS are common, and some routes use regional couriers. The latest tracking event usually names the carrier.
Is 4PX owned by Alibaba or Cainiao?
Cainiao, Alibaba's logistics arm, holds the majority stake. Singapore Post sold its remaining stake to Cainiao in June 2025.
What does a 4PX tracking number look like?
It varies. Some start with "4PX" plus digits. Others are postal-style, with two letters, nine digits and a country code like CN or HK. You may get a new number after handover to a local carrier.
How much does 4PX charge per kg?
4PX doesn't publish a public rate card. Third-party guides quote roughly $6–$8 per kg for economy to the US and $10–$12 for express, but real prices depend on weight, size, route and duties.
Is 4PX the same as AliExpress Standard Shipping?
Not exactly. AliExpress Standard Shipping is a shipping option on AliExpress, and different logistics companies can carry those parcels. 4PX is one of the companies you'll often see handling them.
What happens if my 4PX package is lost?
Contact the seller first. They're 4PX's customer and can open an inquiry. If the delivery estimate is long past, open a "not received" case on the marketplace.
How do I contact 4PX customer service?
Contact details are on 4PX's official website, but support is mainly set up for sellers. As a buyer, going through the seller or the marketplace is usually faster.
