  Iran

   

  Deutsche Post informs that mail services to destination Iran have been temporarily suspended until further notice.

   

  Thailand

   

  The trade union association representing employees of state-owned enterprises has called for a five-day general strike in Thailand. 

   

  The walkouts are scheduled to start on May 22.

   

  The government is called on to resign and to return power to the hands of people.

   

  Iceland

   

  Iceland Post informs that the second day of strikes by Iceland Air pilots, which was scheduled for today, Friday 16th of May, has been cancelled due to a legislation made by the Icelandic government which banned the continued strike action.

   

  Iceland Air will therefore keep it's schedule today and no more action is expected by pilots at Iceland Air.

   

  The United States

   

  The bush fires in Southern California are still not under control.

   

  According to authorities more than 40 square kilometres of land burned on Thursday.

   

  The California Governor declared a state of emergency for the district of San Diego. 

   

  As reported in the "Los Angeles Times", around 13,000 residential and business buildings in San Marcos, north of San Diego, have been evacuated.

  Australia

   

  Australia Post informs that the delivery of some parcels to Western Australia will be delayed by train derailments near Parkeston (east of Kalgoorlie) and between Stewart and Bonnie Vale (west of Kalgoorlie).

   

  The delay affects parcels posted from the east coast of Australia between Monday 12 May and Wednesday 14 May. 

   

  Regular letters and parcels posted Express Post are not impacted, and items posted after Wednesday are being transported by road and may also be subject to minor delays.

   

  Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia

   

  Several days of torrential rain caused severe floodings, Bosnia and Croatia. Wide regions of the countries are under water, many roads are impassable, thousands of people without power.

   

  Bosnia-Herzegovina

   

  Also in Bosnia-Herzegovina a state of emergency has been declared. The centre and the northeast of the country were particularly affected. Several rivers burst their banks. The capital of Sarajevo was affected as well as the cities of Zenica, Bijeljina and Tuzla. Hundreds of houses were flooded, in Sarajevo 3,500 people were left without power. On several roads of the country traffic was interrupted.

   

  Croatia

   

  Severe weather and heavy rain have also paralysed parts of Croatia. In Slovenia-Baranja in the east of the country there were power cuts. On the roads in the state capital of Osijek a gridlock took place. Due to the strong Bora wind parts of the motorway A1 had to be closed to traffic.
